Facts and Events
George Rowland was born ca 1805/06 in Ashe Co, NC, a son of Joseph Rowland and Elizabeth Fouts. I'm not sure Mrs. Rowland was also a Fouts, but if so, that would probably make George and his wife Mary Fouts first cousins. I was unable to locate George and Mary on the 1830 census. They did not appear to be in Ashe County or Macon County that year. I also could not find his parents in 1830. By 1834 the Rowlands and Fouts and other Ashe County families moved to Macon County, North Carolina. George Rowland was listed on the 1840 census just a few houses from his parents.
Analysis:
George Rowland was listed as a Juror in January 1840 Court. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 pg 65) George Rowland was listed as a Juror in March 1842 Court. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 pg 179) They were listed on the 1850 census in Macon County next to probable son John and two houses from George's parents.
On 29 Dec 1852 Nimrod S. Jarrett sold 75 acres to George Rowland on the west bank of the Nantahala River. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book H page 298). George and Polly Rowland were named as heirs in the Estate records of her father Jacob Fouts in 1854. They moved to Bradley County, Tennessee and were listed there on the 1860 census.
They were still in Bradley for the 1870 census.
They weren't found on the 1880 census. |
