Raised 10 children in a log cabin on 80 acres of land in Hoaglin Township, Van Wert, OH. Never worked out away from the farm a day. Farming was done using horses for pulling plows and other machinery. Sent his children to a brick school house 40 rods from their home both of which are still standing. Had to walk to church but used horse drawn vehicles to go into town(Van Wert, OH). Walked to church a mile from home - MT. Pleasant Brethren Church. Went into Van Wert for our trading by horse drawn vehicles.
