    He signed his name George Probatski in this notarial record in June 1654 [Not. Arch. 1329/39v, Gemeente Archief Amsterdam], in which he states he was from Breslau.

  2. Speculation.

    From documents, we know that he was in Brazil by 1643, and probably earlier, working as a blacksmith. He would have had to go through an apprenticeship to become a blacksmith. He also stated he was from Breslau which was in Silesia, which was not part of Poland at those dates.

  5. Breslau was a part of Silesia, which was ruled by the Austrian Habsburgs at this date, and was not part of Poland. Breslau is now currently Wroclaw, Poland.
