Facts and Events
A "JOHN MIZER" was the first pioneer in Auburn Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, in circa 1806. This compiler does not know what relation John was to George, but he was also from Pennsylvania. John did have a brother named George (also brothers Jacob, Frederick, and "Jackson" Dan). John settled on a farm about 1 mile south of the future town of Ragersville. It was John Mizer who suggested the name of "Bucks Township" to the county commissioners. Later in life, John moved to adjacent Coshocton County in pursuit of more abundant game. There is the story of "Little Jake" Mizer who was born in Auburn Township in 1813, who walked to Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania in 1834 to find a wife. On the way, he met an Indian who also had a gun. The two stared each other down for a time, before the Indian pointed his gun at the ground, apparently to indicate peaceful intent, and they passed without incident. There are a number of MIZERs shown on a Bucks Township plat map, from 1908, but none of the names match up to the 20 names listed on WeRelate. However, they are probably related - but not linked yet! The Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society Library in Dennison, Ohio has a Family History identified as: 929.2 M699mi MIZER Family Sheets. --White Creek 15:15, 16 December 2012 (EST) References
