  • 11 Oct 1917 Medical examination at Renfrew, Ontario. 5' 7", 130 lbs. Vision was 15/15 (normal) and he had "scars of old burns right & left hips
  • 03 Jan 1918 Drafted under the Military Service Act, 1917, and completed the "Particulars of Recruitment" form at Kingston, Ontario. He stood 5' 7", had a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He had "scars of old burns [on his] right and left hips." On this same date completed a form based will bequeathing his personal estate oto Mrs. Francis McLaren, Renfrew, Ont." His unit was the 1st Depot Battalion, E. O. Regt., C.E.F.
  • 22 Jan 1918 Embarked on H.M.T. Scotian at St. Johns, Canada. Also know as S.S. Scotian in other documents.
  • 27 Jan 1918 From Halifz per S.S. "Scotian"
  • 25 Apr 1918 Completed a handwritten Military Will stating "In the event of my death I bequeath all my personal property and effects to my mother: Francis McLaren, Renfrew, Canada" He was a Private in the 6th Canadian Reserve battalion. He spelled his middle name as "Alexander" in this document.
  • 06 Feb 1918 Disembarked at Liverpool, Eng. Taken on strength of 7th Reserve Battalion at Seaford
  • 15 Feb 1918 Taken on strength of 6th Reserve Battalion at Seaford

His burial RegistrationS6 notes that "Whilst with his Company in the assembly area, North East of Fontaine-lez-Croisilles, he was hit and almost instantly killed by shrapnel from an enemy shell."
