↑ No death date for George has been found, though as his wife remarried he is presumed to have died before 1855. There is a census in Placerville, California, 26 Oct 1850, listing a George Hume b. CT 1800. It is not known if this is the same man listed in Pawtucket, Mass., on 14 Sep 1850. The two are not, strictly speaking, incompatible, nor is it known if he would be listed in Mass. simply because that was his normal residence? No entry corresponding to either of these is found in later censuses.
