George was with the US Geodetic Survey. In the early 1920's he surveyed the coast of Oregon & Washington. In 1931 he did the triangulations for location of points on the centerline of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco.

In WW II he was Harbormaster of Dutch Harbor in Alaska.

After the war, he taught surveying at Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, OR.
