MILITARY: Rhode Island Pension Records, p 285. Pension granted 10 Sep 1832 to George Austin, age 82 years, living in Wayne Co., NY. Enlisted May 1 1775 for 8 months under Col. Stephen Yarnum, Capt. Edmund Johnson, Lt. Josiah Gibbs; marched from W. Greenwich to Rocksbury MA, near Boston, saw the Battle of Bunker Hill but was not in it. Served there until 1 Jan 1776, discharged and returned to W. Greenwich, thence to Hancock, Berkshire, MA. Vol.unteered again Jan 1777, ordered to proceed to Bennington, but along the way was ordered to take prisoners or straggling parties, drafted to escort or guard prisoners taken at Ticonderoga, eventually ending up in Bennington, VT; served one month.
