Served 1 1/2 years as a Pvt. Co C., 23rd Maine Vol. and Co A., 29th Maine Vol. He sustained injury while in the Army and received a pension for same.

He lived in Peru when he began his ministry. Was pastor of the Free Baptist Church of East Dixfield for a term of years before going to Farmington in the late 1880's.
