Fredrick C. Beckman moved to Sioux County, Iowa in the fall of 1882 and married Mary M. Wilson the following year at Boyden, Iowa. In 1888 he entered into partnership with Mr. Gasser and Wintermantel in the general merchandise business under the firm name of Gasser, Wintermantel & Beckman, later to add Mr. J. H. Rowe into the firm. He became an active promoter in the organizeing of the Hull Produce Co. and acted in the capacity of general manager for the same up to the date of his last sickness. He was also in partnership with his brother, Godfrey, in the buying and selling of livestock. In all these various occupations he proved himself to be an honest man, earnest and consistent. He thought little of pomp and show among his friends.
