Frederick Stanley Summach -- On November 22nd, 2008 Frederick Stanley Summach passed away to his eternal home in glory. Dad will be remembered for his strength of character, integrity, sense of humour, and unwavering faith. Dad fittingly began this great journey on April 1st, 1929 at the Delisle Hospital. He was born the ninth child of ten to Frederick and Esther Summach and was raised on the family homestead south of Asquith. Many stories were told of the fun and camaraderie that was shared living with 9 siblings and 2 large families of cousins close by. Dad's schooling at Avondale School was cut short when his mom became ill and passed away when he was 15. Dad then joined the work force doing various jobs in Saskatoon for his enterprising older brothers. He liked to remind us that he also worked as a window dresser for Eaton's which, in his mind, made him something of a fashion expert. Flexi-Coil Ltd. began to take shape in the early 50s and for several years Dad worked alongside many of his brothers, cousins and good friends manufacturing land packers. In 1950 Dad took over the family farm near Asquith and continued to work at Flexi-Coil during the winter months. Dad married Laura Irene (Laurene) Bateman in 1951 and together they farmed for the next 55 years. Finding Mom may have been Dad's greatest accomplishment in life, for a better life partner he could not have found. Dad and Mom raised 5 daughters on the farm where the importance of church, family and hard work was taught. Dad was known as a skilled farmer. Each year his beautiful crops were the "best ever " and his machinery was kept in meticulous shape. The farm yard was a source of pride for our Dad. Family and friends were always welcome and many outdoor church services and other celebrations were held there. Dad was an active member of the Asquith Baptist Church for many years and never missed an opportunity to tell the people he met about his Lord and Saviour. Dad loved to travel with his family and friends making lasting memories for all of us. Dad and Mom's yearly winter trips to Phoenix via Louisville sparked his interest in tractor pulling. Dad was part of a group who brought tractor pulling to Saskatchewan. "Fast Freddy " thrilled many as the turbos screamed and his diesel IH Super Stock tractor "Moon Rocket " blasted down the track filling the stands with smoke. Over the past 30 years Dad battled a rare disease that slowly overtook his body. In 2004, as Dad's health deteriorated, the decision was made to move to Emmanuel Village in Saskatoon and later sell his farm equipment. Dad loved his family, including 9 grandchildren, very much and was immensely proud of each one. <Names of living individuals have been removed,> who was born with special needs, was especially dear to him. When we were young Dad told us that God chose our family to look after His special child. We had a special Dad and we are proud to be his family. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of the medical community and our dear friends and relatives who have helped us through this journey. Above all, we are thankful to our Heavenly Father for his unfailing love. He was predeceased by his brothers, Emerson, Delbert (Vivian), Malcolm (Verna), Manley (Joyce); his sisters, Muriel Seymour, Estelle (Graeme) Moffat and in laws Harvey Summach, Kenneth Bateman, and Merna (Doug) Rasmussen. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 28th, at 3:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church (1636 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK) to celebrate his life and mourn his passing. Inurnment to follow at a later date. Donations gratefully accepted for research into Summach Spinocerebellar Ataxia, so that one day there may be a cure for this disease that he so valiantly battled.
