I saw an old (May 2000) post you had on the Shupe message board @@ancestry.com, looking for info on John Henry Shupe b. 9/24/1792 Westmoreland County, PA; married Mary Barbara Koller. I'm researching the same branch (husband's gg-grandmother is Margaret Shupe, daughter of John Henry).

I am working on a SHOOP family tree. Much of my older information was received from Mrs. Shirley May SQUIRES WATSON and from her late aunt, Mrs. Mary Ruth Hansen. They started with Henry SHOOP (SHUPE, SHOUP, SCHUPP, etc), born before 1704 in Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany and died c1788 at (Westmoreland Co., PA?). His wife may have been MAGDALENE from Germany. They had four known children: George "Michael" SHOOP (b. c1720), Christopher SHOOP (c1725-1786), John "George" SHOOP (c1728-1777) and Jacob SHOOP (b. c1739). The family came to the U.S. in about 1728 staying in Philadelphia area for a time and some of the children ending up at Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

We continue with the son John "George" SHOOP (SHUPP) who was born on board the ship on the way to America and died c1777-78 at Upper Paxtang Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He married Catherine MEADER (MEADERIN? MATTER?) (c1730-after 1791) and had five known children. They lived at Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and then the Upper Paxton, Lykens Valley area of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

The line continues with Johann George SHUPP (SHOOP) Jr. (1759-1839) who was born at New Holland, Lancaster Co. (later became Dauphin County), PA and died at Dauphin County, PA. He married Anna Maria Elisabeth DEIBLER (1760-1840) who lived her life at Killinger, Dauphin County, PA. They were the parents of 11 known children and are buried at the Little Cemetery (Wert Evangelical Church) at Killinger, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

We continue with their son John (Johannes?) SHOOP (1782-1862) who married Anna Maria YEAGER (JAGER) (called Magdalena or Polly) (1785-1863); who married in c1807 in PA. They both died at Crawford County, Ohio and are buried at the Brokensword Cemetery, in Holmes Township, Crawford County, Ohio. All twelve of their children were born in Pennsylvania and married in Crawford County, Ohio. They moved from Dauphin County, PA to Crawford County, Ohio in the Fall of 1830.

The tenth of their twelve children was Solomon B. SHOOP (1821-1882) who married Catherine EBERLY (1827-1892) in 1843 at Crawford Co., OH. They moved to DuPage and then DeKalb Co., IL in 1846. They were the parents of 12 SHOOP children (including two that died young). They are buried at the East Pierce Cemetery, Pierce Township, DeKalb County, Illinois. Solomon was christened on 17 Jan 1822 at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church at Killinger, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

I am descended (great-grandson) from Solomon's daughter Lucinda Jane SHOOP (1855-1943) who married Anthony RAMER (1842-1904) in 1874 at DeKalb Co., IL. They lived the rest of their lives at Hinckley, DeKalb Co.

Frederick Shoop of Lower Paxton Township, will dated April 26, 1835, probated September 30, 1835. Executors: his son George Shoop and brother-in-law James German [or Garman]. Frederick Shoop referred to his wife and other children but did not name them.

From the work of Mary Ruth Hansen of Fresno, CA 1978: "On August 28th, 1750, the ship TWO BROTHERS...landed at Philadelphia...with 95 male passengers on board above the age of 16 years...among this number was George Michael Shoop [Shupp]. He first came to Germantown, now a part of the city of Brotherly Love, which was a stopping point for many of the Germans during the Provincial era...then in due time to the vicinity of Shoop's Church, where Christopher Shoop, possibly a brother, already located. With George Michael Shoop...was Christopher [his son] aged 8 years. Christopher / Stophel Shooop was born November 10, 1743 in Germany and died January 13, 1820, buried in the old graveyard at Shoop's Church...who his wife was we know not...He had [known] issue:

1. John born 25 May 1771, died 15 March 1826 in Susquehanna Township where he resided for many years, having removed there from COnewago Twp. He married Anna or Margaret Beck born February 8, 1772 and died May 13, 1808...[They had a son] Jacob who d Wayne County OH, m Rebecca Fitting andhad three children, m Anna Arney; and a son John born March 20, 1796 in Conewago Tp Dauphin County, PA, d March 29, 1891.

2. Daniel born February 5, 1774, died November 17, 1807 in Dauphin Co, buried Shoop's Church, m Susan Blosser born October 1, 1774, died April 9, 1836, had children two boys and one girl.

3. Catherine born September 17, 1775, died August 12, 1840 married John Felty born August 30, 1770 and died May 28, 1826, son of J. Michael Felty, and they had issue.

4. Rosanna married John Hoover and removed to Wayne or Richland Co OH where they died leaving issue.

5. Jacob Shoop born February 10, 1778, died November 11, 1844, married Miss Schultz and had a son Samuel who lived in Lower Paxtang Township Dauphin Co PA and a daughter who married a Rauch.

6. Elizabeth born November 19, 1783, died September 17, 1851, m John Ewing and they had issue: John Christopher 1817, William of Progress, Dauphin Co, and Jonathan Ewing.

7. Christopher born January 8, 1785, died September 8, 1832, married Elizabeth Crall, daughter of John Crall, and had issue.

8. Magdalena Shoop married Jacob Bear.

9. John Frederick Shoop married Polly Garman and they had issue, some living in the West.

I'm not related to this family but I am related to George Kress and Lena Shoop. I do have some information on Christopher Shoop. First his father's name is Johann Christophel Schupp (John) born 12/13/1717 in Germany He married Anna Margaret Pokin on 8/16/1742 at Moden Creek, Berks Co. Pa. Johann Died 1/?/1820. They came to America in the 1700's I was told maybe around 1739. I have only two children to them Christopher and George. On Christopher which he and his father was called Stofel. Christopher last name was changed to Shoop we don't now why. He was born in America on 11/10/1743 and died 1/13/1820. He Married Rosina now i have two different last names on her. The lived in Harrisburg Pa. They donated land for the church to be built on and the Cemetery next to the Church. The Church was called the Shoop Lutheran Church from 1783 to 1983 when the church was re-built and called the St Mark's Church address is 4200 Londonderry Road Colonial Park Harrisburg Pa. I wrote to them some years back and they sent be a book on the History of the Church and they gave me a list on all the Shoop's that are buried in the Cemetery. On Their first son John I have born 6/?/1771 to 3/15/1826 Daniel Shoop born 2/15/1774 to 11/17/1807. Catharine Shoop born 9/12/1775 to 8/12/1840. Jacob Shoop born 2/10/1778 to 11/11/1844. Melchior Leonhardt Flenspach (Flinspach) of Grossgartach , Lauffen am Neckar, Wuerttemberg, Germany , brought with him in 1753 nine children the seventh was Rosemaria Flenspach. They lived for app. 15 years in East Derry Twp. Lancaster County, (now Dauphin County- near colonial Park in Harrisburg). Then moved to York County. Rosemaria was married to one Christopher Shoop. In the Will of Melchior Flenspach, Catherine, Wife of Stophel Shoop is named as an Heir. There is name confusion here, but I am certain there is a connection. What do you Think WFTv7t0163 give b. July 14, 1785 d. September 3, 1835

Ann -- I looked in my copies of the German Church Records of Westmoreland Co., PA by Rev. Paul Miller Ruff, and Vol. 2 (1792-1804) has 2 daughters for Frederick Schupp & Margaretha , both at Zion Church, East Huntingdon Twp. --

1. 66 - Ana Maria, b. 28 June 1794, bapt. 24 Aug 1794. Sponsors were Melchor Scherbandi & Ana Maria.

1. 113 - Elena, b. 9 Mar 1796, bapt. 7 Aug 1796. Sponsors were George

Scherbandy & Maria.

  I would guess that the Scherbandy families were relatives, maybe of the wife.

There are no more entries for Frederick & Margaretha after this, and they probably moved west sometime after 1796. I did not find a record for your Henry John or John Henry b. in Sept 1792. There is, however, a Johann Henrich b. 28 Jan 1792, bapt. 19 Apr. 1792, #2 at Zion, & son of Nicholaus Schwab or Schwob & Anna Maria. They had several other children: Joh. George, b. 1787 Joh. Jacob, b. 1789 Joh. Henrich, b. 1792 -- as above Susanna, b. 1794 Johannes, b. 1796 Nicolaus, b. 1798 Hanna, b. 1800

  This family also disappears from Westmoreland Co. in later baptism records.  Do any of these names sound familiar?  I can give you the full info if you think it is relevant.
  I have Shoup or Shupe families in East Huntingdon Twp., also (Laurentz & Michael), but they don't seem to be connected directly to these others above.

I do have a JOHN, b. about 1791, son of Michael, but there is no baptism record for him, so I can't verify the birthdate for this John. I don't think he was a John Henry, as there is another Henry in that family but born several years later, and probably not your Henry.

  Hope this has been of some help.  I have really not tried to follow Shoup/Shoop/Shupe families into other states, as most of mine stayed in Westmoreland Co.  i have had some contacts with other folks who do have these families in Ohio, but maybe one of them gave you my email.
