Obituary[1] 24 Oct 2008 BAR HARBOR and MICCO, Fla. – Maj. Frederick Malcolm Clement, U.S. Air Force, retired, 76, died Oct. 24, 2008, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Sebastian, Fla. He was born March 31, 1932, in Charleston, the son of Frederick Weston and Beryl Adiena (Dyer) Clement. Fred received his high school education from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War and he received his Bachelor of Arts from Chaminade College, Honolulu. He retired as a major after a military career of 21 years. After retiring from the military he became the executive director of Mount Desert Island Housing Authorities and Ellsworth Housing Authorities, working for more than 21 years. He was a past member of the Rotary and Kebo Golf Club, board of directors, both of Bar Harbor. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Joan C. (Jordan) Clement; two daughters, Nancy Schroeder and husband, Andrew, of Antioch, Ill., and Glenda Sue Bergeron and husband, John, of Gurnee, Ill.; stepdaughter, Holly Copp Simason of Bar Harbor; stepson, Richard Copp of Hollywood, Calif.; three sisters, Frieda McLauglin of Mountain, Idaho, Ada Nason and husband, Gene, of Washington, N.H., and Beverly Woody and husband, James, of Marion, N.C.; stepsister, Paula Clement Smith of Charleston; four stepbrothers, Theron, George and Kimberly Clement, all of Charleston and James Clement of Linneus; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Deborah Ann Clement and Diana Lee Leyva. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Bar Harbor Congregational Church, 29 Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Dr. Sandra Reed presiding. Interment with full military honors will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor. Those who desire may make contributions in Fred’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
