Frederick was transferred to White Hall Soldiers' Orphan School on March 1, 1869 from Emmaus School. He was discharged to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 26 June 1873. Frederick learned the tinsmith trade during his education at White Hall.

In 1876 Frederick Cleckner boarded with John Burke, his uncle and was apprenticed to John. (see U. S. City Directories, 1821-1989 record for Frederick Cleckner). John Burke's wife was a sister of Frederick's mother, Jane Harris Cleckner.

In 1885 Frederick Cleckner is employed at Cleckner & Burke a hardware business in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. (see U.S.City Directories, 1821-1989 record for Frederick Cleckner.

The birth date on his gravestone pictured at Find A Grave is 24 June.
