After months of suffering, during which the best of care was bestowed upon him, Fred J. Clarke, passed away at his home in Walworth, Wis., in the early morning of Thursday, January 14, 1915.
Frederick James Clarke, the fourth son of Dr. Henry and Lorinda Coon Clarke was born on what was known as the Dr. Wood farm, east of Walworth, March 4, 1843, and thus died in his seventy-third year. He had spent most of his life in and near Walworth though a few years were spent in the far West, and a short time at Milton, Wis.
Mr. Clarke was married June 1, 1865, to Harriet Emeline Coon, who died. Three children came to this home, Meta, the eldest, dying July 26, 1904, Zoe L. Rice, of Chicago, and Adaline H. Belland, of Walworth, still living. On January 4, 1899, Mr. Clarke was united to Emma Dora Morris, who has so tenderly cared for her husband in his last long illness. Besides Mrs. Clarke and the two daughters who are saddened at his going, there remain three brothers, Frank, of Morsmere, N. Y., O. P. of Walworth; and Milton J., of Milton., with seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and many other relatives.
Mr. Clarke was converted and joined the Walworth Seventh Day Baptist Church during the pastorate of Rev. L. E. Livermore, and afterwards transferred his membership to Milton Junction where it was held at the time of his death. He has been interested in the work of the church, and has received great comfort from the reading of the Bible and the Sabbath Recorder, especially during the long illness.
Farewell services were held at the home, and at the Seventh Day Baptist church, on Sabbath afternoon, January sixteenth, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. Eugene Davis, and the church choir, followed by the interment in the Walworth Cemetery. H. E. D.
