Frank is 18 years old and living with his parents and Grandfather Ball in Waterloo in the 1870 census. Still living at home with his parents in the 1880 census, working as a laborer. By the 1885 Iowa census, he is married to M.M. Jenkins and living in Sanborn, O’Brien Co. and may be running a boarding house. The Iowa Gazeteer and Business Directory for 1884-5 shows Frank D. Jenkins as the proprietor of Jenkins House in Sanborn, Iowa. He is shown living on Block 9, Lots 3-5. There is mention of a Jenkins House or hotel in the 1897 History of O’Brien County by D.A.W. Perkins that I need to find.

In 1901 “Engineer Jenkins and Dr. C. B. Powell went to St. Louis Tuesday to attend the commencement exercises of the Marion Simms Medical College. Dr. G. A. Jenkins will graduate with honors.”

OBITUARY:Frank DeWayne Jenkins, son of Enoch and Betsie Jenkins, was born in Randolph, N.Y. in the year 1851. At the age of five years he moved with his parents to Waterloo, Iowa, where he attended school until the age of seventeen or eighteen years, when he was employed by the Illinois Central Railway, first as a fireman and then as an engineer. In 1891 he resigned his position with the Illinois Central Railway and accepted a position with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railway, as engineer, which position he retired from at the age of 63. He then moved to Springfield, Missouri where he engaged in business for two years. The remainder of time was spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in rooming and real estate business. He died at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 19 days. He was a member in good standing of Astor Lodge 505, A.F. and A. M., Albia, Iowa Oklahoma consistery No. 1, Valley of guthrie, Akdar Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Tulsa, Oklahoma. To mourn his loss he leaves a wife, Mrs. M. M. Jenkins and a son, Dr. G. A. Jenkins who is a practicing physicial at Albia, Iowa. he was loved by all who knew him and his memory will always be green with his remarkably large host of friends.

Tombstone said, “He believed devoutly in the brotherhood of man.”
