Frank served in WWI as a private in the 11th Battalion of the AIF. He departed for the Middle East on 17 Aug 1914 and fought at Galipolli. He returned to Australia on 17 Mar 1916. Between 1914 and 1919 Frank visited Scotland. There he visited relatives, including a John Knox who was about 10 at the time.
