Francis attended Santa Barbara College, majoring in art and music. For many years she owned and operated Hawaiian Blossoms, with headquarters in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and shops in several other large hotels on the island of Oahu. Francis taught flower arranging at the University of Hawaii and was a frequent lecturer in both Hawaii and the U.S. mainland.
