Mbr Hampden Hist Soc; Life Mbr Applachian Mtn Club. Obituary in Springfield Republican Oct 7, 2001 LONGMEADOW - Francis B. Haynes, 88, of 770 Converse St. and longtime Hampden resident, died Thursday at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Springfield, graduated from Technical High School and attended Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. He retired from Hampden Engineering Co. in 1977. He also worked for the former Chapman Valve Manufacturing Co., West Springfield Bookbinding Co., and the Hampden Post Office. He was an active member of the Applachian Mountain Club, a volunteer at Old Sturbridge Village and served as a volunteer fireman at Hampden Fire Department. He was a member and ruling elder at the former First Presbyterian Church in Springfield and attended Christ Presbyterian and Hampden Federated churches. His wife, Lillian (Bower) Haynes died in 1994. He leaves three sons, David L. of Virginia Beach, Va. Donald F. of Wilbraham, and Peter C. of Boylston; a daughter, Susan E. Sterling of Enfield, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at Dickinson-Streeter Funeral Home, 305 State St., Monday at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at Ruth's House in Longmeadew. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Old Cemetery, Hampden. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P. O.
