Francis Brown [prob. bro. of Peter]. Deputy (Stamford) to the Conn. Leg., May 1665, May 1667, Oct. 1668, May 1669. Sometimes confused with the Francis Brown of New Haven who m. Mary Edwards and had a different family. He was apprentice of Henry Wolcott of Windsor, bought his freedom 1649; … bought and sold at Farmington, 1656. He settled in Stamford. … rem. with (third wife) to Rye, N. Y. He conveyed 15 Dec. 1684 to son Joseph, who was to make a payment to "my daughter Mary Hallebort." [Stamford Deeds.] The will of Francis, being ill, 5 Feb. 1685 [1685/6], recorded 6 Nov. 1686; wife Judith, mentioning her former husband, John Ogden; to son Joseph, house and land in Stamford; to child Mercy Brown; sons "Benninonie" Galpin, Thomas "Hollibird", and Jonathan Scudder. [Rye Records.] Despite the recording of the will, he recovered and signified his intention of renewing its terms from year to year. He gave conveyances as late as 1707.
