Obituary: DEATH OF PROFESSOR OGSTON, ABERDEEN. Page 2, Monday 26 Sep 1887.
The death occurred in Aberdeen last night of Dr Francis Ogston, Emeritus Professor of Medical Jurisprudence in Aberdeen University, one of the oldest and most highly respected physicians the city. Deceased, who was in his 85th year, held the Chair since its foundation in 1857, and retired from it only four years ago, his son, Professor Alexander Ogston succeeding to the post. Previous to 1857 the deceased had identified himself with the teaching of his particular branch of medical science, branch he had made so particularly his own that his written communications thereon found favour with the German critics amongst the best things their kind. Deceased was also for many years police surgeon in Aberdeen, and in that capacity gave badgering attorneys no little trouble in the witness box in criminal cases in making clear, unassailable statements* and sticking to them. Deceased is survived by his two sons, Alexander, the Professor, and Francis, who, after practising medicine in Aberdeen, left to fill a Government post in New Zealand some three years ago.
