Florence Mae Mains, daughter of William Grant and Martha Hilsabeck Dupuy, was born in Glendon, Iowa, February 9, 1900. As a young girl, she moved th the Red River Valley area in Minnesota for a few years. After returning to Guthrie County, she helped in caring for the sick, and acting as a midwife in many homes. She was married to James Cleveland Mains, September 20, 1921. They had 10 children-four daughters, Alberta (Mrs. Ben Hamilton), of Perry, Betty (Mrs. Luther Burris) of Dawson, Colleen (Mrs. Kenneth Jorgensen) of Mason City, and Emma Lou (Mrs. Larry Baker) of Panora; six sons, Louis of Lometa, California, Bill of Henderson, Nevada, George of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Ward of Pahrump, Nevada, and Frank of Guthrie Center, Richard died at birth. Florence was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and was a past Noble Grand. She belonged to the Happy Hour Club. During her life, she saw the passing of her parents, one infant son, Richard, two sisters, Nellie and Dorothy, and two brothers, Edward and Albert. Also four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a son-inlaw. Remembering her are her children, for daughters and five sons; four sisters, Pearl Kirlin of Stuart, Bessie McLuen of Pella, Mabel McIntire of Stuart, and Mildred Cline of Menlo, three brothers, John, and Willard of Rifle, Colorado and Harmon of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; 32 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
