Loss to Legion at Seaford, Mrs F. H. Willis. The death occured at her home "Willishurst" Claremont Road, Seaford on Saturday of Mrs Florence Harriet Willis. Aged 72 she was the widow of Major R. G. (Bob) Willis, a well known public man and a former chairman of the local authority. Mrs Willis was well known in the area particularly in connection with her work on behalf of the Seaford British Legion women's section. For many years she was honorable secretary and in 1944 became chairman, a position she held until ill health forced her to take a less active interest in Legion affairs in 1947. Two weeks before her death she was made a life member of the organization. Mrs Willis, formerly a Miss Banks, was born in Seaford. Her family were bakers in the town for many years. The funeral took place at Seaford Parish Church on Wednesday, conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. F. W. Shilton), who is also the Legion branch chaplain. British Legion standards of both the men's and the women's sections were carried to the church and as the cortage entered the drive they were dipped in honour. The family mourners were Mr Durham Willis of Newhaven, and Mr M Willis of Dover, sons. Mr and Mrs R. Willis (son and daughter-in-law). Mr and Mrs T. S. Peckham (son-in-law and daughter). Mr and Mrs A. Banks, Mr and Mrs M. Banks, Mr and Mrs A. K. Banks (brothers and sisters-in-law). Mrs Sharpe (sister), Miss Ward (niece), Mr and Mrs L. Randall (cousins), Mr and Mrs C. Jordan. Among those who also attended were Miss D. M. B. Synge (President of Seaford British Legion women's section), Captain F. J. Davis (branch president), and Major R. A. F. Hilton (branch chairman). Internment was at the cemetery.
