The birth date for Evelyn is recorded here as 13 October. The birth certificate obtained when she enlisted in the RAAF during WW2 shows the date as 15 Oct. Evelyn's mother was adamant that the correct date was 13 October and that the error was made by the attending midwife who assisted with the birth.
Due to an injury suffered at school when another child stepped on her foot, Evelyn was not passed fit to for active service overseas. Consequently she was assigned to office duties and stationed in Melbourne.
