Eugene E. Arrasmith, son of Jacob E. and Mary Campbell Arrasmith, was born on March 23, 1861, in Wayne County, Indiana, and passed away at the Saint Francis hospital in Grand Island Nebraska on Wednesday, Sept 4, at the age of 68 year, 5 months and 12 days. While an infant, Mr. Arrasmith moved with parents to Preble county, Ohio and in 1878, moved to Guthrie, now Menlo, Iowa. In 1882, he moved to a farm located five miles north east of Menlo where for a time he engaged in farming. Later he purchased a farm one-half mile from the other, and made his home there. On February 27, 1890, he was united in marriage to May McLuen and to this union five children wer born, all of whom with their mother survive him. They are Harry Arrasmith of Des Moines, Mrs. Grace Paullin of Monteith, Mrs. Ethel Wolfe of Stuart, Mrs. Minnie Garwood of Menlo, and Miss Ferne Arrasmith at home in Guthrie Center. He also leaves to mourn his passing, nineteen grand children, several nephews and nieces, one sister Mrs. Ollie Lighthall of New York City, N. Y., two brothers A. G. Arrasmith of Fullerton, Nebr. and P. L. Arrasmith of Griswold and a host of friends in the communities where he resided. In November, 1927, Mr. Arrasmith with his family moved to Guthrie Center where they have resided since. Mr. Arrasmith was a goodly man, having at heart the interest of all those about him. He was quiet in manner, expressing his attitude and interest in deeds. We have lost a friend and townsman. It was but yesterday he was bouyant and happy at work among us. His last days were days of suffering, and the hope of relief faded with each day. However he resigned himself to it without complaint and asked his loved ones not to worry. Funeral services were conducted from the late home in Guthrie Center, Sunday afternoon Sept 8, by the Rev. C. A. Underwood and interment was made in the Morrisburg cemetery.
