Savage errs in making John Gallop of Taunton the same as John Gallop of Boston (the Boston one being the famous sea captain). John Gallop of Boston had moved to New London by 1650 so Esther b. 1653 in Taunton was not his. She is not mentioned in division of his estate even though alive. A "John Golope" was in Taunton 2 Mar 1640-1, and "John Gallop" on 18 Feb 1651-2, who appears to be a different person and Esther's father. It seems probable he died not long after Esther was born and his widow m. Richard Burt of Taunton based on Esther being given her father's grant, and on names and numbers of children, which suggests her mother was Charity Hall.
