 David F. Ray died between 10 and 11 o'clock this morning at his home in the southwest part of Burlington after a lingering illness.  Mr. Ray has made a hard struggle for life and rallied several times when the end seemed near.  He was about 64 years old.
 The funeral will be held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. W. C. Chappell.  Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

SERVICES HELD AT / METHODIST CHURCH / FOR DAVID F. RAY

 Funeral services for David F. Ray were held at 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. W. C. Chappell.  Mrs. W. C. Chappell and Mrs. F. R. Marshall, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. T. T. Kelly sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross."  Pallbearers were Andy and Glen Johnson, Frank Holmes and C. E. Robinson of the Burlington I.O.O.F. lodge and Ralph and Fred Johnson of the LeRoy I.O.O.F. lodge.  Honorary pallbearers were A. L. Hitchens, Jas. Hollett, Elmer Anderson, Teryl Lawrence, Fred Jones, J. M. Sharr, Judge J. W. Whitney of Burlington and Charles Gerdsen, Jr., of Moran.  Flower girls were Madge and Betty Meekins, Phyllis and Betty Hollett, Virginia Seaton, Fernella Alen and Irene and Nina Pearl Sylvester.  Interment was in Graceland cemetery.
 Relatives and friends, who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Chandler and family of Buffalo, Mrs. Abe Newman of Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Massey of Halls Summit, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Massey of Gridley, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Gerdsen and family of Moran, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Love and family of Moran and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kiser and family of Erie.
 David Francis Ray was born May 11, 1872 near Casey, Illinois and departed this life August 22, 1936 at the age of 64 years, three months and 11 days.  Mr. Ray came from Illinois to Missouri at the age of about 15 years and then came from Missouri into Oklahoma when the strip was opened.  About 14 years ago he came to Kansas.  He was united in marriage to Miss Stella Massey of Burlington, Kansas on January 12, 1922 [sic; should read 1923], and has lived in Burlington since that time.  He was a member of the Burlington Methodist church having transferred from Rolston, Okla., Methodist church where he was an ardent church worker having served as the superintendent of the county Sunday school convention and also very active in the temperance cause and other phases of church activity.  He was a faithful member of the Odd Fellows lodge and was Past Noble Grand at the time of his death.  He was also a Major of the Third Battalion, 1st Regiment of the Patriarch Militant of Odd Fellowship.
 He has two children by an early marriage whose whereabout[s] are unknown.  He passed away peacefully after seven months of suffering.  His testimony was that of a true Christian.  In his early day he was a Government Civil Service employee having ranked as one of the three highest in his examination in the United States.  His work was among the Indians for many years.  He has served as sheriff, private detective and United States Marshall in Oklahoma.  He spent about six years in the oil field.  His work took him over many states.
 He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and two children as mentioned above, other relatives and many, many friends especially among the children.

Gasche-Ray / Mrs. Stella J. Ray and Chester Gasche of Burlington were married Tuesday afternoon, March 9, 1937 at Lyndon by Probate Judge George E. Ramskill. The couple was unaccompanied.

 The bride has been a resident of Burlington for the past 21 years living on west St. Lawrence street.  Mr. Gasche has lived here for the past two years and operates the Westend Auto Salvage.
 Both have many friends who extend best wishes for their happiness.  They are at home to their friends at the home on St. Lawrence street.

 Chester Gasche, aged 68, died at 7:30 o'clock Saturday evening, September 27, 1947 at the home on St. Lawrence street in Burlington.  Mr Gasche had been up and around as usual but suffered a heart attack in the morning and remained in the house.  Mr Gasche lived at Hartford for many years but had made his home in Burlington for a considerable time and for years operated a wrecking business here.  He is survived by his wife of the home.
 Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Burlington Foursquare church and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev Russell S. Badgett.  Interment will be in Hartford cemetery.

CHESTER GASCHE / IS LAID TO REST

 Funeral services for Chester Gasche who died at his home at 12th and St. Lawrence streets in Burlington, September 27, 1947, were held at the Foursquare Gospel church in Burlington the following Thursday afternoon and were conducted by Rev Russell S. Badgett, the pastor.  The services were largely attended and there were beautiful floral offerings.  The songs "The Old Rugged Cross," "I Can Almost See That City" and "Face to Face" were sung by Mrs Grace Beavers, Mrs L. B. Blake and R. Ackerman, and Mrs Beavers sang "Near to the Heart of God" as a solo.  Mrs Elsie White was accompanist.  Burial was in the family lot in the Hartford cemetery, the pall bearers being Andy Johnson, Jake Sharr, Marvin Seaton, Lafe Allen, Jess Hawkins and C. E. McIlvain.
 Chester Gasche was born in Ohio December 7, 1878, and came to the Hartford community when still young.  He lived around Hartford until he moved to Burlington 13 years ago.  Mr Gasche was married to Minnie Dennies [sic; should read Dennis] February 12, 1903.  After her death he married Stella Ray, who survives.
 He died at his home in Burlington September 27, 1947 after an illness of some time, and leaves to mourn his loss his wife Stella; his brothers Walter, Alfred, Wallace and Carl Gasche, and his sisters, Mrs Florence Klitzing and Mrs Emma Lucas of Oregon; two half sisters, Mrs Martha Divers and Mrs Mary Hickock, and his niece, Mrs John Hawkins, who was very dear to him.
 Mr Gasche was well and favorably known in the Hartford community where he lived for so many years, and at Burlington where he spent his declining years.  He was actively interested in the church and was a lover of the Bible.

 Mrs Stella Gasche, aged 59, died at 5:30 o'clock this morning, Tuesday, August 28, 1951 at the home on St. Lawrence street.  Mrs Gasche has been ailing for about five years and had been bedfast for several weeks and critically ill a few days.  Her husband preceded her in death in 1947.  She is survived by a half-brother, Joe Massey of Yates Center.
 Mrs John Hawkins [Stella's husband's niece] has been caring for Mrs Gasche during her illness.  Funeral arrangements will be made after Mr Hawkins's arrival from Pierce City, Mo., some time today.

SERVICES HELD FOR / STELLA J. GASCHE

 Funeral services for Mrs Estella J. Gasche were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Burlington Foursquare church and were conducted by Rev. George Metzgler.  Mrs Ada Macoubrie accompanied by Mrs W. M. Fleming sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross."  Casket bearers were Fred Childers, Andy Johnson, Jake Sharr, Hubert Manley, Lewis Arb and Nate Cacoubrie.  Interment was in Hartford cemetery.
 Estella J. (Massey) Gasche, daughter of Isaac and Lydia E. Massey was born June 24, 1892.  Mrs Gasche has been in poor health for seven years, and departed this life August 28, 1951 at the age of 59 years, two months and four days.
 She was married to David Ray January 12, 1925 [sic; should read 1923].  He passed away August 21 [22], 1936.  She was then married to Chester Gasche March 9, 1937.  Mr Gasche departed this life September 27, 1947.  Others preceding her in death were her father and mother, one brother, Roy Massey and several half brothers and sisters.  Survivors are one half brother Joe Massey of Yates Center and several nephews and nieces.  She was faithfully cared for by her niece and husband, Mr and Mrs John Hawkins during her illness.
 She was a member of the Foursquare church and attended faithfully until failing health.  She will be sadly missed by her relatives and friends.
