J. B. BARCLAYS OF HEDLEY HAVE DINNER ON 50TH WEDDING DAY

Mr. and Mrs J. B. Barclay of Hedley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently in Hedley with a dinner at the Lions Club building and later held open house in their home. Yellow dahlias were used throughout the house and the lace-laid table was centered with dahlias and yellow tapers in silver candlelabra. Mrs Harold Barclay of Eldorado, Mrs T. S. Barclay of Edmonson and Mrs. Ruben Thomas of Sunray served. The honored couple were married at Glen Rose in the home of her parents. Barclay was reared in Granbury. they lived in Hardeman County for 35 years, moving to Goodnight before going to Hedley in 1951. Their children are Earl Barclay of Panhandle, Mrs. Ralph Busbee of Fort Worth, J. B. Barclay, Jr. of Waitsburg, Wash., T. S. Barclay of Edmonson, Mrs. Calvin Reeveas and Mrs. Ruben Thomas of Sunray. They have 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Fannie Mae Barclay Busbee, 96, a retired bookkeeper, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at an Arlington hospital. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Blessing Colonial Chapel. Burial: Hawkins Cemetery. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Blessing Funeral Home. Fannie was born in Hardeman County March 5, 1908, the last surviving child of James B. and Rosa Lee Cross Barclay. Fannie was a hardworking farm girl. She worked in Little School Cafeteria, Williamsons Dickies and Natetorium Laundry after several years of retirement and the death of her husband. Fannie started square dancing and made square dance frocks. Her father had been a square dance caller and that really sparked her interest. Later, Fannie went to work at Grandy's as a "Granny." She enjoyed her work and retired from Grandy's at the age of 85. Fannie was a very talented person, teaching herself to make her own clothing and to play the piano. She became very involved with her family genealogy. Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, James B. and Rosa Lee Barclay; brothers, Earl, J.B. and T.S. Barclay; sisters, Laverne Reevas and Olean Thomas; husband of over 50 years, William Ralph Busbee; grandsons, Billy Joe Busbee, Ray Busbee and Barry Busbee. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Thomas was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Hardeman County. She was a Moore County resident since 1947. She married Ruben Thomas on Dec. 25, 1941, in Glen Rose. She was a member of Sunray Baptist Church since 1947. She was a member of the 20th Century Study Club. She was a 1941 graduate of Glen Rose High School. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years and was a longtime postal employee at the Sunray Post Office. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Rose Barclay; three sisters, Lola Barclay in 1903, Flora Barclay in 1911 and LaVerne Reeveas in 2001; and three brothers, J.B. Barclay in 1966, Earl Barclay in 1984 and T.S. Barclay in 1999. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mickey Lackey of Dumas and Mary Joyce Ward of Boys Ranch; a sister, Fannie Mae Busbee of Arlington; three grandchildren, Lee Ann Lackey of Fort Worth, Kristina Henderson of Plains, Kan., and Jared Wade Ward of Boys Ranch; two stepgrandchildren, Jamie Ward of Manhattan, Kan., and Erin Ward of Topeka, Kan.; and two great-grandchildren, Stormy and Seth.
