Ephraim Holland', b. Aug. 20. 1821, "He was a volunteer in the Mexican War, and while in a sentry-box at Matamoros, in Mexico, he sat down on a box containing some powder, when, for some unknown cause, it exploded, burning him so dreadfully that he lived only twenty-two hours afterward.
