"4. Capt. Ephraim3 Hunt (Ephraim,2 Enoch1) was born at Weymouth in 1650; died there 26 June, 1713. … He was captain in the expedition to Canada, 1690; colonel in 1706 and 1707; councillor to Gov. Joseph Dudley, 1703 to 1713.
Ephraim Hunt's (Suffolk Probate, 21: 657) estate was represented as incapable of being divided into twelve parts according to the number of children; inventory 1 Mar. 1719. His sons John, William, Ebenezer and Thomas Hunt are to pay their brothers and sisters their shares (saving unto their mother Johanna Hunt, the widow, her right of dower). They to pay unto their brothers and sisters, namely, Samuel Hunt, eldest son (who accepts only a single share), Peter, the children and heirs of Johanna, deceased,—Elizabeth, Sarah, Mercy and Ephraim Hunt,—or their guardians, £139 5s. 5d. on or before 15 Mar. 1720. Johanna Hunt, widow, John Hunt, husbandman, William Hunt, husbandman, all of Weymouth, and Thomas Hunt, anchorsmith, and Joshua Gee, shipwright, both of Boston, gave bond 28 Aug. 1713, for Johanna, John and William Hunt to administer upon estate of Ephraim Hunt, Esq., late of Weymouth.
Joanna Hunt relinquished her right of dower in the estate to her four sons John Hunt, William Hunt, Ebenezer Hunt and Thomas Hunt, they to pay her £22 annaully and allow her the best room in the east end of her husband's mansion, 3 Mar. 1719-20.
John Hunt, William Hunt, Ebenezer Hunt and Thomas Hunt, sons of deceased, agree to pay their brothers and sisters, namely, Samuel Hunt, eldest son (who accepts a single share), Peter, the children and heirs of Joanna,—Elizabeth, Sarah, Mercy and Ephraim Hunt,—or their guardians, £139 55. 5d., and upon the death of their mother Johanna Hunt the sum of £691 12s. 8d. Thomas Holbrook the sec. of had John, b. 11 Dec. 1679; Samuel, 8 Feb. 1682; John, again, 23 Nov. 1687; Peter, 8 Mar. 1690; William, 14 Mar. 1692; Ebenezer, 6 Apr. 1694; and Thomas, 1 May 1696; was rep. 1689, 90, and 1, a Col. by this honor led on to partake in the preposterous exped. of Phips to the St. Lawrence, in command of a comp. soon after ret. was made in 1703 a couns. till d. June 1713.
