Facts and Events
Father: Caleb Ward b: Abt 1892 in Westfield, Richmond, NY unverified Mother: Ann Appleman b: 1803 in NY From A History of Allegan and Barry Counties In the year 1848, Caleb Ward purchased 120 acres of land on section 31 from D.S. Heywood, who had bought it of the government. Previous to the purchase, however, Mr. Heywood had made an arrangement with Melvin Hogmire to clear off a part of it, receiving for his labor a portion of the land. Mr. Hogmire at the time of sale had cleared about 30 acres, and Mr. Ward purchased his interest also in the land, and entered upon the cleared tract at once. His son, Emmet Ward, lives on the farm his father bought. From Anne Nelson I also found a note that Emmet Ward remarried after Mary Ann King died to a Mrs. Eliza Kumley of Kalamazoo - married on Sept 21, 1927 Emmet served in the Civil War enlisted August 26, 1863 - Co. A MI Calvary served 2 yrs 5 mo & 17 days. Active in 12 battles. From his obit in the Bloomington Leader Jan 10, 1924 References
