Emma Jean Whaley, 61, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born in Anderson County on April 9, 1936, the daughter of Herrell T. and Lois Jackson Mahoney. Her father died in 1968 and her mother lives in Oliver Springs. Mrs. Whaley retired in 1994 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems. At the time of her retirement she was a senior EDP job control assistant at the Oak Ridge K-25 Site. She was a member of the New Mountain View Baptist Church. At one time, she was active with the Oak Ridge Chapter of Sweet Adelines. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Leonard C. Whaley; three daughters and sons-in-la, Katherine Sue Whaley and Timothy Merrell Duncan of Andersonville, Glenda Louise and Daniel Robinson Cloutier of Knoxville and Paulette and John Theodore Higginbottom III of Birmingham, Ala. She also is survived by a brother, Howard Buster Mahoney and his wife, Carol, of Waycross, Ga.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judith Mahoney and Lynn Eaton and Carolyn Mahoney and Julian Stein, all of Oliver Springs; and two granchildren, Emily Paige Higginbottom and John Theodore Higginbottom IV, both of Birmingham. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at New Mountain View Baptist Church in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Joseph Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Weatherford Mortuary. References
