Letter Written By Emily Haynes Whitney: this is my address July 22 1877 Rochelle Ogle Co Illinois Cousin Derick Haynes It is nearly 27 years since our Folks left Old Dry Brook after so longe atime I now sit down to write you I am the youngest Child of William andNancy Haynes I saw a letter you wrot to Oliver Canfield I thought Iwould wright to you wishing you to wright back to me my mother died inJanuary 1870 she died trusting in the Lord she told us she had beenthinking of her past life and she thought she had done her duty and thatall would be well we need not be uneasy if she should not live thiswas her last sickness we had no fear for she had lived the life of aChristian Uncle Hachaliah Uncle David Aunt Peggy all were ready whincalled to come up higher now I will tell you of my brothers and sistersmy sister Margaret you may remember came here and died before we leftDry Brook sister Julia was married to I. W. Hull twenty four year agolast May she has four children two of her girl's were married last Mayone girl and boy at home with her yet Brother Thompson was married inthe year 1870 he has a little girl and boy page 3 dated July 23th My brother Calvin was married to Mary Murray in the year 1868 he hasthree little boys I was married to James Whitney of Delaware Co. N. Y.in 1857 he came to Illinois with Dustin Wood my husband was then alittle boy Wood is living and doing well he has a wife and sixchildren he thinks before many years he will be called to his betterhome I have eight children five are living our three little one'sthat have gone from our home are living with the Lord I think I have asgood and kind a husband as any woman in the world we are trying to doas we would be done by we are United with the M. E. Church and ourchildren all that are old enough are with us in the church we have goodmeetings here I do wish you could come out here and see our beautifulcountry that we live in I want to see old Dry Brook and I think if theLord is willing my husband and me will go there in five or six years ifyou know where my Father's grave is I wish you would be kind enough tomark the place for me if I go back I want to find his grave Pray for usfrom your cousin Signature: Emily A.
