Heisterkamp's Annotated Landis Ferree Tree (as of 30 April 2004)

Emanuel was the son of Jacob Ferree (1730- 1782) and Barbara Carpenter (1738-1775). He lived in Leacock Township, Lancaster County. A Manuel Ferree is listed as a gunsmith in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1779. According to the research of Major George Bennett Ferree, there is a gun in existence signed by either Manuel or Emanuel Ferree. It is thought that Emanuel and Manuel are probably the same man.

From the Roberta North and Barbara Ferree Notes - unpublished

The 1790 United States Census lists an Emanuel Ferree of Strasburg Township as head of a family with 3 males over 16, 3 males under 16, and 3 females.

Emanuel Ferree seems to have been in the habit of abbreviating his first name as EMM. A Ferree historian of some years ago interpreted this as CMM, an interpretation more readily understood when E is written in script.
