Daily Times-News, The Saturday, April 13, 1974 Mrs. ELSIE COBLE Holt, a former teacher in Alamance County Schools, was honored with a "This Is Your Life" program last Sunday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, Route 1, Graham, in recognition of her many years of service to her church, school, community, family and friends. "Miss as she is known throughout the community, received surprise greetings and tributes from former teachers, students and pastors as well as members of her family and close friends. Mrs.. Holt, a member of the first graduating class of Alexander Wilson High School, began teaching in the Eureka School, a one-room facility, in the fall of 1924 just after Mrs. ELSIE Holt graduating and securing a teacher's certificate at what is now UNC-G. She taught at Eureka at intervals until the Alexander Wilson school expanded its facilities to include The honoree was active in all phases of education, actively participating in various educational organizations, and also was cited for her unselfish service in her church and community. She has been a Church School teacher, president of the Women's Society for Christian Service of the United Methodist Church on both a local and district level, served as chairman and member of various commissions and represented Mt. Hermon as 11 grades, then continued to an official delegate to the teach there until her retirement in 1969. After her husband's death ;n 1941, Mrs.. Holt was faced with the responsibility of her own education, her teaching career, and the care of her two children. She has worked in many other capacities in the church, including membership activities, and she visits shut-ins and assists her pastor in keeping in touch with the needs of the community . . . .
