Dr. Bash died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the Vincentian Home of Pittsburg, Pa. He was born November 12, 1931 in New Kensington, Pa., he lived in Mentor for the past 30 years.
Dr. Bash was a retired Colonel in the US Army. He Served in Korea & Vietnam. He was awarded a purple heart in Korea and Vietnam, awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star for Valentry in action.
Dr. Bash was chief of prosthetics for the Wade Park Medical Center, retiring after 30 years.
He was raised at the Toner Institute of Pittsburgh, run by Franciscan Friars where he graduated and later returned as Commodate at the Institute and was military director for 14 years,. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the St. John Vianney Knights of Columbus. He was recognized and honored by Disabled American Vets across the country. He worked for the U.S. Government for 45 years, setting a record for the longest time in government service.
Survivors are his wife of 27 years, Midge; son: Joseph Bash of Scottsdale, Az.; sisters: Sr. Charolette, V.S.E. of Pittsburgh, Pa., Donna Gambol of Johnstown, Pa.; brothers: Frank (Patty) Gambol of California, Mike (Cheryl) Gambol of Rome, Ohio, Bob (Sue) Gambol of Madison, Ohio; nieces: Melissa, Mary, Lee, Shawna, Katie; nephews: John, Frank, Anthony Dustry; Dear friends: Bob and Rose Leimkahler and Scott and Karen Westfall and Fr. Robert Kline and the Vincentian Sisters.
