    Geographer. Advisor to President Woodrow Wilson for the Versailles Peace Conference of 1919; based on her work in establishing geography as a legitimate field, the University of Kentucky honored her by making her the first woman to receive an honorary degree. Charter member and president of the Association of American Geographers.
