Mrs. Nellie S Cummings, 89, a resident of Topeka since 1873, died Monday afternoon at Ingleside Home, 521 Huntoon. Mrs. Cummings, widow of the late Henry J Cummings, was born Dec. 14, 1859, at Notting Hill, a suburb of London, England, to parents John R. Perkins and Frances Hatswell Amery Perkins. She came to the United States with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John R, Perkins; a sister now deceased, Mrs. Annie Little; and a brother, Harry Perkins, Topeka. She was preceded in death by her husband John Cummings in September 1932 and also by her daughter, Florence (Stacy) Sexton in April 1948. She was a member of the Christian Church for the past 30 years. Also surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. J. T. O'Neal, Merriam; a son, Arthur E Straub, Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 7 nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with burial in Topeka Cemetery.
**Her first marriage was to James C. Stacy on 20 Jan 1883 in Eskridge (Wabaunsee CO), Kansas. He died, possibly from Tuberculosis, prior to her second marriage (May 1890) to Ernest Straub. I am still trying to find his death record and burial location. In the Kansas Census of 1885, they were living in or near Burlingame (Osage CO), Kansas.
Her second husband, Ernest Straub, died in March 1925, and is buried at Topeka Cemetery.
