This source gives birth date of 27 July 1686 to Elkanah, which differs from the vital records. However, the vital records have Nathaniel b. May 1676 and Samuel b. 27 Jul 1676, clearly not possible, so it appears the vital records for this family are confused. Some sources assume Samuel's birth was really 27 Jul 1686, which is the date this source gives for Elkanah. This source keeps Samuel on 27 Jul 1676, but moves Nathaniel to 1 Jan 1680 with no explanation. It is conceivable that the Elkanah recorded in 1674 d. young, and another was b. 1686. 1686 matches a first marriage in 1719/20 better than does 1674, not to mention a death in 1778. Sigh!
