Notes from another researcher Elizabeth was the third child of Michael Shofner Jr.. and Philipena Duirr. A Marriage bond dated August 15, 1804, in Orange county NC. documents the marriage of George Hufman and Betsey Shofner with John Cook and Isc. Holt as Witnesses. George was the son of John Hoffman III and Catherine Ingle. George and later generations used the spelling Huffman for their surname. George and Elizabeth are reported to be buried in the Old Union Cemetery in Carroll County Tennessee, however their graves are unmarked.

George and Elizabeth lived on a farm in Guilford County NC. just west of Whitsett after their marriage and all of their children were born there. In August of 1839 the family moved to Carroll County Tennessee. They may have followed her brother Daniel who was already living there.
