The surname of Elizabeth, Samuel Rich's first wife, is not recorded. However, the footnote in the Descendants of Richard Rich article notes, "Samuel Rich was buried in the Old North Cemetery at Truro, in the Mulford lot, near his first wife Elizabeth. This naturally suggests some connection with the Mulford family. The will of Thomas Mulford, dated 12 Jan 1706, named his daughter Elizabeth Mulford. She was of suitable age to have become the wife of Samuel Rich, and all the dates that we have are consistent with such a marriage. One of the daughters of Samuel and Elizabeth Rich named her first child Mulford."
