Elizabeth arrived with her family in Galveston in December 1846. She is listed on most American genealogies as the daughter of Johann Klingelhoefer's first wife, Maria Elizabeth Weil but the genealogy I received from a member of the Klingelhöfer family association in Germany lists her as the daughter of Elizabeth Heiland, born illegitimately during her father's first marriage and legitimized after the marriage of the parents. That genealogy lists her birthdate as 19 Oct. 1834, whereas the American genealogies list 1833 with no month or day given based her listing as age 17 on the 1850 Census. However, in The Frontier Times article "A Bakery of Pioneer Days," the author says Louisa was the oldest Klingelhoefer daughter. Even with the 1834 birth date for Elizabeth, it is possible, but unlikely she is the daughter of Maria Elizabeth Weil, since Louisa was born on January 9 of that year, which is the date given in all my sources. The German Association has access to records in Germany that none of my American sources have, so I give more credence to their genealogy. While the census listing of Elizabeth's age is an official record, I've discovered many errors in census records of that period.

Elizabeth married Herman Hitzfeld December 2, 1841 in a double wedding with her sister Louisa and Conrad Wehmeyer. Elizabeth died in 15 March 1853, a month after the birth of her daughter, Louise (Luise), her only child.
