  3. 3.0 3.1 Source:Reed, Jacob Whittemore. History of the Reed Family in Europe and America, p. 85, says "Elizabeth, the wife of Joseph, died Sept. 30, 1825, aged seventy-six." americanancestors.org's collection of Massachusetts VRs shows only an Elizabeth Read of Hopkinton, age 74, d. 30 Dec 1825. Is this what Reed meant, or did he get his information from a correspondent? Either way it appears wrong, since it would make Elizabeth over 25 years older than her husband: wildly unlikely. The death record of daughter Ann says her mother's (i.e., Elizabeth's) birthplace was Roxbury, so it seems most probable that she was the Elizabeth Keyes born in Roxbury in 1776, the same year her husband Joseph was born. It then seems likely that the death of Elizabeth Reed in Newton in 1848, age 72, is her death since it fits the birth in 1776 perfectly. It would make sense if she is suffering from cancer, that she might stay with her daughter Ann, who was married to a doctor who practiced medicine in Newton.
