[edit] Newspaper ArticlesObituary from York Republican (York, Nebraska) 3 Jun 1920: Passing of Mrs. E. S. Ferguson. Mrs. E. S. Ferguson passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Smith, on last Sunday evening. Her demise was the culmination of the infirmities of age, eighty-one milestones having been passed in her mortal journey. Elizabeth S. French was born eight-one years ago in Illinois. She began teaching school at the age of fourteen, in Stephenson County, Ill. On Feb. 22, 1866, she married Nelson M. Ferguson, a veteran of the civil war, at Lena, Ill. Five years later they joined the western stream of home seekers and took up their residence in York County, settling on a homestead four miles from Bradshaw. Early Mrs. Ferguson united with the Methodist church and ever remained, during the years of her active life, devoted to her church duties. In 1883 they moved into Bradshaw and Mr. Ferguson became postmaster of that village. Later he was elected county treasurer and served in that position two terms. He passed to his reward in 1915. They were the parents of two children--Herbert I. Ferguson of Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs. J. E. Smith of this city. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. L. R. DeWolf, were held at the Smith home on Tuesday afternoon and the interment was made in Greenwood. |
