Elizabeth Conklin, daughter of Moses and Jane (Willson) Conklin was born ca.1853 in Ohio. She moved with her parents to Kansas. The 1870 census shows her living with a couple in their 60’s in Elk City. Howard County, Kansas. On 21 February 1877 she married James H. Burnett in Chatauqua County, Kansas. James was born ca.1839 in Indiana. She is listed as Elizabeth Burdette in her grandfather Conklin's will. Cutler’s history of Kansas says that Lizzie Conkling taught in the first school in a village in Chatauqua County in 1874. Lizzie and her sister Alice are said to have made the flag for the first 4th of July celebration in Cedar Vale. The family lived in Cedar Vale, Chatauqua County, Kansas in 1880.

The 1900 US census shows the family living in Ponca City, Kay, Oklahoma.
