This portion of her Jul 3, 1930 obituary in the Bath Independent aptly describes Ellen Hagan's role in her community:
"Mrs. Hagan was born in Georgetown, a daughter of Joseph and Eleanor Blaisdell, and was a life long resident of the town. She was a member of the Baptist church and a charter member of the Ladies' aid in which she was very active, and was also a member of Five Islands grange. She was interested in all that pertained to the welfare of the town, was interested in people in general and always extended a helping hand to the sick and those less fortunate than herself, so that her passing will be genuinely missed by a wide circle of friends. She was the widow of Capt. David Hagan and since her[stet, should read "his"] death 22 years ago made it her custom for a number of years to pass her Winters away and her Summers at home."
