Elizabeth Adams claimed to have been born around 1810 in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, daughter of Joseph Adams, although no birth or baptism record has yet been found for her. Her first confirmed sighting is in November 1832, when she had a daughter called Sarah baptised at Leighton Buzzard.
On 22nd November 1835, Elizabeth married an agricultural labourer called James Parrott. They appear to have had four children together. The 1841 census finds the family living at America Place in Leighton Buzzard.
James died in 1843, aged 33. Elizabeth was pregnant at the time, with her next son's birth being registered in the first quarter of 1844. She named him James, after the father he never met.
In 1850 Elizabeth had a daughter Eliza.
The 1851 census finds Elizabeth living with four children at Friday Street in Leighton Buzzard and working as a straw plaiter.
By 1861, Elizabeth and her youngest daughter were living with Samuel Linney, who was a widower, in the America area of Leighton Buzzard. Elizabeth was described as being his housekeeper, as well as still working as a straw plaiter. The 1871 census similarly finds Elizabeth living with Samuel Linney at America Road. They eventually married on 13th December 1878. The 1881 census finds Elizabeth and Samuel living on Heath Road, with Elizabeth's daughter Eliza also living with them.
Elizabeth died in 1888. She was said to be 77 years old. Samuel survived her by nine years.
