Facts and Events
Notes from Kenneth Hoag, RootsWeb: ELIJAH T. MORROW was born near Burlington, North Carolina, on February 5, 1839. He was the son of Dr. Alexander Morrow and Cornelia Mebane Graves-Morrow. Elijah had aspired to be a medical doctor like his father however, while working on his thesis in New Orleans, he contracted yellow fever. Elijah went to a cousin's (last name Graves) house in Texas to recover. He met Rosanna "Rosie" Perry while recovering, and asked her to marry him. They were married on September 20,1860. Rosie was the daughter of Edward Perry and Eveline Sidick. The Perry Family owned ranch and farm land in Texas. Elijah was cultivated and knew nothing of the Texas lifestyle or ranching, but he decided to help the family instead of returning to North Carolina to complete his degree. Thus, he became a rancher. Shortly after he was married, war broke out, and he served the in the Confederacy. When he returned from war, he taught school for children of the San Antonio River Community in the 2 story cement home that his father-in-law built. Rosie and Elijah had 4 children during the course of their marriage. Rosie passed away after 15 years of their marriage on December 16, 1875, and Elijah lived another 19 years, departing on December 5, 1894. References
