Eli Shively (son of David Shively, son of George Shively, son of Jacob Shively, son of Jacob Isaac Shively, son of Ulrich, Christian, Durs) was born in Stark County, Ohio on October 16, 1851. The family moved to a farm near Camp Creek in Etna Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana about 1853, Eli resided in that location for his entire life.
Nancy E. Taylor was born in Prairie Township near Stony Point on June 29, 1859. She was the oldest daughter of Johnathan and Catherine (Carr) Taylor. Her father was born near Kendal, England in 1829, and married in Fulton County, Indiana. She taught five terms of school prior to her marriage to Eli Shively on November 24, 1881. She became a member of the Camp Creek Church of the Brethren in 1886, and was active until her death from internal cancer on January 19, 1916, at the age of 56 year
Eli was 53 years old when Robert was born, and Bessie was 22 years older than her youngest brother.
Eli died on March 6, 1922, and is buried in Stony Point Cemetery next to David and George. Nancy is buried a short distance away across a driveway, and is separated from both the Shively and Taylor families.
