Living next door to John R. Shaw, age 39, born SC; and two doors down from James T. Shaw, age 33, born SC.

Listed in the 1880 Walker County, Texas Census, District 154, enumerated June 24th, page 304B, Dwelling 298, Household 298, as Elias Shaw, age 64, widowed, Minister, born SC, parents born SC. With son Elias T., age 26, single, farm hand, born MS, father born SC, mother born MS; Son Leroy T., age 15, at school, born TX. Living with son Samuel S. and his family. Two houses away from William M. Shaw and family.

Story is he was coming home from the war, and ran into some renegade rebel soldiers who had gone AWOL (although the war was now over). They called to him to stop, but his hearing was gone from the shooting during the war, so they shot him in the back. Afterwards, they realized he was a preacher, so they took his body and his bible back to his wife, but kept his horse. Not sure of this, since I show he didn't die until 1886.

There are records of an Elias Shaw marrying an Elizabeth Neele in Marshall County, AL on 9/11/1838.
