Two houses away from William M. Shaw and family. Story is he was coming home from the war, and ran into some renegade rebel soldiers who had gone AWOL (although the war was now over). They called to him to stop, but his hearing was gone from the shooting during the war, so they shot him in the back. Afterwards, they realized he was a preacher, so they took his body and his bible back to his wife, but kept his horse. Not sure of this, since I show he didn't die until 1886. There are records of an Elias Shaw marrying an Elizabeth Neele in Marshall County, AL on 9/11/1838. |
